Activity 1 - 1/13/11

What is the chemicals and their structures that make up cardboard?
Cardboard is made out of paper, which is made by trees.  The corn startch in glue keeps the surface together.  Cellulose - OH, HO, O, OH rotating



What is the chemicals and their structures that make up styrofoam?
It is formed from plastic and polystyrene (erethylene and benzine). Hydrogen, Carbon


What is the chemicals and their structures that make up waxes?
Carbon and hydrogen

Explain why water is attracted to cardboard and not styrofoam.
Look at electronegativity.  Because the cardboards charges are attracted to the water.
