Activity 4 - 1/11/11

What elements make up water?
Hydrogen and Oxygen

Is water and ionic compound or covalent?
Water is a covalent compound because both elements are nonmetals.  The Hydrogen shares its electrons with Oxygen

What is the shape of water?
"Bent" or an L shape because there are two hydrogens and one oxygen.

Why does water stick to itself?
Because of the hydrogen bonds, the value of H is 2.1 and O is 3.5, so H is positive.

Why does water not stick or mix to oil?
Because the water sticks to itself and the electronegativity does not allow it to.
