Explain what happened in that mountain village we described in class. You explanation will need to include detail that includes density and molecular weight of gases.
Through research I have concluded that the villagers died due to hypercapnia. Hypercapnia is a condition when too much carbon dioxide is in the blood. This happens in different ways such as lung disease, hyperventilation, or what I think in this case high concentrations of carbon dioxide (due to volcanic or geothermal causes.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypercapnia
Carbon dioxide is heavier than air, therefore it collects in lower places and when it collects into small places such as the valley it becomes dense. When the air becomes more than 30% CO2 it becomes dangerous and possibly fatal.
The carbon dioxide's molecular weight is heavier than air, therefore it settles in lower places. http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/hazards/gas/index.php
